Odds and ends

Well, it's official, assuming 12th on the waitlist gets me in I'll be doing the WS/HRH "double" in 2009. That means I'll be training for two races at once which should be fun. I'd like to run a combined time of 48 hrs in the 2 races so given that I hope to be chasing Tweit's Masters' Record at WS I'd like to be in the 30-31 hour range at HRH. Am I nuts? Don't answer that!

I've also begun my hill training phase in my build up for WS which means the horizontal miles are fewer and the vertical feet are greater. Just today I did 10 miles in 1:48 but climbed 3400 feet (on snow). Fun stuff. I am hoping to be in 4 hour shape by WTC four weeks from now and then try to do an 8 hour R2R2R in late March before getting down to business.

And, I've got a bit of work travel coming up over the next two weeks so I'll be running on the fly and just getting by. These are the days....

I've got a house in Flagstaff you're welcome to use for your stay during the R2R2R. Let me know if you'd like a free place to stay for a weekend.

You are on the wait list ? It will be great to follow your training for two races at the same time.

Andy, Mark Here, I live in North Central and train in the SP preserve every day, Flag or Mt Ord on the weekends. I think i remember you used to work at PCDS. I used to do masters swim there. I am in for both WS/HR as well and will be doing R2R2R before also. We have a big crew going from here if you want company, i cant go 8 hrs but 9 is a possibility. E-mail me when you get a chance. Take Care. mcosmas@cox.net.

Last year I trained for Desert RATS 150 stage race and HR at the same time, which were 3 weeks apart and two totally different worlds. So it can be done.

Play your cards right...you might be looking at something beyond a masters record at States. Rock it!
