P.S. first comment!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tend to agree with Carson. In fact, I would have flipped #s 1 and 2 on both the men's and women's side.

I agree with AnthonyP, that the women’s ultrarunner of the year should be filled with the runners-up but sure about the mens.

Jorge won BW and RR 100 but that is it. The only other completive race he ran was AR 50 and he got 7th. Kyle could have sealed the deal if he had won the NF 50 but a 4th place definitely hurt.

Kami won the NF 50 and Miwok and also got 2nd at the IAU 100k but do these three races deserve to the win ultrarunner of the year? Jamie won 4 races that were 100 miles +, and won 8 Ultra races total. She also put up some big mileage at the IAU 24 hour race for 5th place.

totally surprized that m. carpenter's nf champ run didn't make top three for performance of the year. clearly, the toughest field of any race in 2008.

FF,

I hear you on Carpenter at NF but consider the following:

1. Kyle Skaggs’ Hardrock 100 Mile, 23:23:30

Wins by 6 hours, breaks CR by just under 3 hours.

2. Dave Mackey’s Miwok 100 km

Breaks CR by 30 mins against field arguably as competitive as NF

3. Scott Jurek’s Spartathlon 153.3 Mile, 22:20:01

Best time ever by anyone not named Kouros. 13:?? 100 mile split

4. Brian Robinson’s Barkley 100 Mile, 55:42:27

Simply a sick run in an alternate universe.

5. Erik Skaggs' Quad Dipsea 28.4 Mile

Broke a record that had been on the books for years. Methodically.

I think they're right placing Matt 6th.

AJW, why would you have Scott J at #3, he had one good race. Did you forget his two DNF's at Mt.B & Ultracentric?

Matt F,

No, I didn't forget those. Did you forget his WTC and Miwok? 4th place at both of those races against very competitive fields. DNF's are part of the game.

AJW, I think you can rank your self ahead of Jorge once you can run a 13:16 100 mile.

AJW said...

Joy,

Good point! As you probably guessed, I threw myself in there to be provocative:) To be honest, I was a bit surprised I was as high as 12th in the actual voting.

And, I'll never be able to run 13:16.

Good point about Matt Carpenter - he is very picky about his races and that will always hinder his overall "ranking". It's the Lance Armstrong curse - show up for one big dance a year and everyone discounts your body of work. I was going to say you were being a little hard on #4! and would certainly agree with you on Kyle - I will never in my lifetime be able to run Hardrock, let alone bomb it like he did.
