AJWs Blog 2.0

One of the reasons I discontinued this blog two years ago was due to frustration with the increasingly negative tone that the discussions were taking. However, over the past six months I have observed more negativity than ever on the ultrarunning interwebs and I have become frustrated. It is my hope that by resurrecting AJWs blog and writing occasional posts here (to complement my Friday column on irunfar) we can work together to heal some of the wounds that have emerged in the sport and grow together while maintaining the shared values that make us strong.

Craig Thornley wrote a nice piece this morning on his blog.

And, the resurrection of AJWs Blog 2.0 would not be complete without a weekly poll.

Oh man, what a great surprise, AJW is back!

Well done man, will look forward for the usual thought provoking material... And some good ol'banter with LB.

Went with Dakota's SJS. But I am homer and have a man crush on Carpenter so anytime one of his records fall ... wait, how often does that happen?

Sharman's run at Leadville tops your suggestions, me thinks. Rory's UTMB takedown is also a fantastic run.

Went with Rory, as was the quasi international championship, and broke the CR by over 2 hours. That's a record that could last for 30 years.

Of course, then I laugh that at the time of my voting, Tim Olson's WS had zero votes. Crazy - I think his 2013 was better than 2012.

Read his blog and yours - neither of you are giving any specifics about what you're referring to. What examples of negativity are you speak of?

Glad it's back. Don't worry about the tone of others. Your posts reject that negativity and offer something many of us value.

Brett - read the comments on the last AJW's TapRoom. It doesn't get "Letsrun.com negative" but it got pretty negative.

I'll provide negative comments over here whenever you don't pick a Colorado brew for BOTW.

Great to see the long lost AJW blog appear in my feed! Be sure to hyperlink that link to Craig's post so the Google can rank it accordingly. ;-)

Welcome back AJW. I missed your blog post, advice, and ability to remain grounded with all your success. Looking forward to some positive vibes.

Just stumbled across this. You have one of the loudest, and most respected voices in trail running. I think that as the sport has shifted from just being participatory, where we share in each other's journeys, to a sport with fans of the "Big Guys and Gals" there is a more tribal tone to the comments. So it goes. I appreciate your writing immensely, and look forward to your Friday posts. You are a class act, but really should enjoy more Utah brews...

Time for a new poll ... UPOY ... got to consider Oslen's sub 12 now.

Would the GS record (in other words four races collectively)even be considered?
