Leadville Video

My good friend and pacer Kevin Sullivan shot this video at Mile 76 of the Leadville 100 this past Saturday. Clearly, it is footage of an ultrarunner in one of his finest moments. Enjoy!

AWESOME! My runner was doing the same thing but I didn't have the courage to take video - Nice job Kevin!

Andy, Andy, Andy - you are awesome! I'm sure a little Vomitus Euphoritus running after the footage ended, right?

I love it! I hope there is some vomit inducing ultras in my future. I will then feel like I've arrived as a runner.

Kara Goucher's got nothing on you, AJW.
Best part: "I guess we better start runnin'"
Way to go!

I hope you didn't get puke on those LA SPORTIVA FIREBLADES!
Great vid - way to hang tough, another day in the life.

Throwing up a few seconds after "I'm feeling pretty good..."

I got this from a friend:

"I am thoroughly impressed with the summer you had. You chose the tough 100s with competitive fields to test your manhood. You had top ten finishes in all of them. You’re by far the veteran with the most seniority (based on quantity and quality of 100s) amongst those actively competing in 100s these days. I am most impressed with your Leadville. Your Leadville performance was outstanding even absent the fact that you ran two previous 100s this summer.

Now retool so we can race next summer at Western."

Fine, fine puking. I am rubbing the tears from eyes after a good hard laugh at the unexpected nature of the video. If I had a chance to vote for Ultrarunner video of the year this is it. The presence to keep on taking video was brilliant. Thanks for sharing. Nice to know that the guys up front have as much fun as those of us in the back.

congrats on a supper summer of racing.

I don't know how you do it. But I think you've created a new art form. When I puke, it is rank, disgusting, or something worse. When you puke, it's art. Amazing shit.

Thanks for all the comments everybody but thanks most of all to Kevin. Funny thing is, when you're a pacer and your runner pukes you really don't know what to do do. Kevin was great. If you really listen to his audio (it's actually even better than the video) you get a sense of his emotion through the whole thing. From "uh-oh" to "that's ultra!" to "I think we were about to run" his support was immense. Just immense.

And, just for the record, he had to do this two more times before the finish. Fortunately, it was dark by then and he couldn't get it on tape.

And, as for his presence of mind to keep recording, come on! If you were pacing me and I started to puke wouldn't you want to get it on tape and post it to YouTube? It's what it's all about.

Sums it all up - the intensity, the levity, the, "Okay, time to get moving!"

It's like art. But more puke-ish.

To say I am dissapointed in your video performance is an understatement. Purely amateur. You actually stopped, moved to the side of the road and then puked?! Have you not yet mastered the puke-run-stride method? Rookie.
