The Legendary Jim King

Chiphing took this photo of Jim King and me on the day after Western States. It was quite a thrill for me to meet the legendary WS Champion.

How cool.... My running friends are all 20 years older than me and they're WS100 stories all come from the mid-80's.... So many of the stories include Jim King...

"c'mon, jim"

Awesome. Still doing the mullet proud after all these years.

I'm thinking an Oil de King would make an excellent addition to the Michigan Bluff House for Kamp V. 4.0 in 2010. Of course, we all know it's no Oil De Selleck, but excellence can only be spread so thin.

You've gone picture crazy on the bloggo, Jizzle. Well Done.

Mr. Jones-Wilkins,

You probably don't remember me, but my name is Rebecca Smith and I was a student of yours at Head-Royce Middle school six years ago. I know this is a bit random, but two other Head-Royce alumns and I- I graduated from Head-Royce in 2008- are driving my father's boat across the country in late August. We're currently planning our itinerary, and were thinking about stopping near Sun Valley Idaho. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for good camping sites, or must-sees in the area... if you had a free minute, I would really love to hear from you! My email address is Rebecca_Smith@brown.edu.

Glad to see you're still running like a crazy man :D

Hi AJW, I'm an old friend of Jim King. Any idea on how I can contact him to say hi?
Thanks,

I was an Explorer Scout with Jim King back in 1974-1976. We would hike 20 miles, and be pretty much exhausted. Jim would put down his backpack, put on his running shoes, and head out for 2-3 hours. I always assumed it was what cross country runners did. Then, in 1984, I was watching the Western States race on TV with a friend, and lo and behold, here is Jim not only running this crazy race, but winning. He is a very incredible guy, very spiritual, and one heck of a runner.
