I have an off topic mostly bizarre question to ask you.

I just ran my first marathon about a year ago, and then in 2008 did a 50k, a 60+ mile ultra, and the Pikes Peak Marathon...which was the only race of the year with significant elevation change (26.2 miles with +/- 8000 feet). I am starting to think about a couple ultra races I can travel out west to again this year.

My question is this - a lot of people walk the steep stuff up and then run on the downs. In my experience with Pikes (having done the Ascent (up) a couple times) the up doesn't kill your legs, its the down that does.

Have you ever heard or seen a strategy in ultras to jog the ups and speed walk the downs?Bretthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02376446409534942024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1899309861714342259.post-65351810531659307722008-11-21T11:29:00.000-08:002008-11-21T11:29:00.000-08:00You need that speed to stay ahead of those cougars...You need that speed to stay ahead of those cougars in the pre-dawn hours.Hank Darthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16168709676047000763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1899309861714342259.post-69933243346832278822008-11-20T22:23:00.000-08:002008-11-20T22:23:00.000-08:00love the running with no chain analogy. i had one...love the running with no chain analogy. i had one of those days last friday. it sure is fun.Geoffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03238385683129822240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1899309861714342259.post-40896356499530238212008-11-20T14:43:00.000-08:002008-11-20T14:43:00.000-08:00Those urban p.r.s are the best! Those urban p.r.s are the best!saschasdadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06920379008380900505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1899309861714342259.post-977042446974866572008-11-20T13:10:00.000-08:002008-11-20T13:10:00.000-08:00I get so bummed when I hear you say "6:40 feels pr...I get so bummed when I hear you say "6:40 feels pretty good."
